Small lots, shared consequences
Mountain View's compact lots mean fences carry more per post: gates, trellises, and neighbor-shared runs often hang on the same few posts. One failed post here pulls several structures out of true at once — which is why the count from photos matters before anyone quotes anything.
Why the diagonal 2x4 is not a repair
A brace propped against a leaning run is the commonest thing we are asked to leave in place, and it is the one thing that reliably makes the next repair bigger. It does not hold the post up; it transfers the load into boards and rails that were never sized to carry it, so the lean comes back with more of the fence involved in it. The effort of fitting it properly is most of the effort of pulling the post and doing it right, and the difference in how long it lasts is years against months.
